Tidbits

So, a random little section for laughs. I just went to my hometown for the day to visit my parents, and a friend came with me. On the way back, she nodded off to sleep in midsentence and woke up when I started laughing. Oh well. In other work news, I recently got a burn from the end of a saute pan, so it is a lovely tear drop shape, and I knicked my finger the other day and it took 7 bandaids to stop the bleeding, and I'm not understating it either, it really was a small knick. Tip: if you want to know if someone cooks for a living, look at their forearms, it's a dead giveaway.

Mishaps

At work the other night, it was just me and all the guys because the other girl is on vacation, and it was a funny night. We were waiting to plate up the food for 3 different parties, and we had taped the menus for the party on a sheet pan and propped it up in a way that is too complex to explain. Anyway, at one point, I was looking at it or something and turned to the side and suddenly it just fell, right on my head. All of us were laughing so hard. And then, about 10 minutes later, I had just walked by it when it fell and made this crazy crashing sound, which caused more laughter. The next night, we were catering an event off site of the hotel and I was trying to plug something in, or getting something under one of the portable lights, but misjudged where it was an knocked my head on the under side. Didn't hurt, but it did set all of us laughing again. Oh well.

Labor Day

I know, labor day was a while ago, but it has been a crazy couple of weeks at work. So, here's what I did. Work gave me 5 days off in a row (wow) so I drove up to see a friend in a mountain town about 3 hours away and went to the county fair. Quite the experience. I don't think there is any need to have reunions up there, everyone just meets every year at the fair. Crazy. I also got pulled over that night, asked about a million questions, and passed my first sobriety test. The guy kept asking if I had drinken anything alcoholic that night, to which I replied no, and after the test he said," you know what? I actually believe you." Which is good since I was telling the truth.

After the parade the next day, I went to visit my family in a nearby town and some of our longest term friends and went swimming and hung out and had lots of fun.

Then, I went and helped my parents do some landscaping projects at the house they are trying to sell. It was really fun, I even learned how to put in a drip system as well as experienced my first broken pipe and how to fix it. Much fun for sure! Pictures to come as soon as I receive them!

Walking a what?

So, I was out running the other day and saw a very strange thing. Two different sets of people were walking their birds. The birds were just sitting on the owner's hand or shoulder and the people were walking along. Bizarre. Then, today I was going to read on the beach when I saw a guy biking with his dog in one of those kid carriers that go on the back of a bike. I think dogs normally like to run. Hmm..

In other bird news, I'm going to say that pelicans migrate. If they don't I saw alot of them flying at once. I was taking a walk down the beach on one of my days off and saw a flock of pelicans fly by....and then another..and another. So, I counted one of the groups and then watched as they continued to appear on the horizon and proceed to fly by me. Crazy. In about 15 minutes, I estimate conservatively that about 300 pelicans flew by.
